Sunday Times Article
In an article exploring the alternative investment world The Sunday Times newspaper sought comment from Mr. Gary West, Director of Port Funds SPC.
The article, extolling the virtue of varied "off-piste" investments, interviewed a number of leading lights within the investment management industry including Mr. West. They explored a wide range of investment opportunities including fine wine, film and music rights, viaticals, coin collecting and timber.
With global stock markets weakening and property foreclosures on the rise the Sunday Times considered the current investment options. "With the property market collapsing and commodities at extreme levels, is there anywhere left to make money?"
The answer from their informal investment panel was a resounding yes!
"Alternatives are no longer the abstract 1%-2% of a portfolio; they’re fundamental - into the realms of a 20%-30% split across a mixture of non-correlated alternatives..." opined Gary West.
When called upon to consider fine wine Mr. West continued..."Asia is buying huge volumes of investment-grade wine, but they’re not storing it; they’re drinking it. That’ll have a tremendous, long-term effect on the wine market."
The ideas of other notable investment advisors were included in the piece..."City "superwoman" Nicola Horlick plans to let clients invest in music rights in the belief the sector will beat the downturn, while Clem Chambers, chief executive of stocks and shares site ADVFN.com, has sold out of equities and into collectable coins."
A wise investor is a diverse investor.
