The Movie & TV Opportunities Fund is not a traditional media fund – and the returns are not dependent on Box Office performance. Even before production begins a sufficient mix of distribution rights are “pre-sold” to major distributors to cover at least 100% of the film’s production budget. In practice, the pre-sales target is for 125% of the budget to “lock-in” a 25% return. Pre-sales in the film industry have never been used this way before. Traditionally, pre-sales have been used as one element of film finance but this fund is using them to preserve capital and to achieve its financial return target. Subsequent revenues stemming from ownership of the films represents additional equity upside.
